Sustainability
Lo Maset del Me is self-sufficient and 100% off-grid. We have chosen the most sustainable ways to generate energy and manage water. We hope to inspire others by showcasing these technologies and demonstrating that sustainable living does not mean compromising on comfort.
Electricity
The houses are off-grid, meaning they are not connected to the electricity grid. All electricity is generated by solar panels and stored in lithium batteries. For this reason, we kindly ask you to use electricity responsibly, especially on cloudy days, when solar energy production is more limited.
Water
We collect rainwater from all the rooftops and store it in a 50,000-litre underground cistern. After being filtered, the water is distributed to all the houses. In addition, each house is equipped with ceramic water filters to ensure that the drinking water is safe to drink.
Residual Waters
Greywater (from showers and sinks) is treated through a vermicomposting system using worms, followed by a gravel filter, and is then reused for irrigation. Blackwater (from the toilets) first passes into a septic tank and is subsequently treated through a constructed wetland system.
Compost
Kitchen food scraps are composted together with waste from the dry toilets. The result is a rich natural fertiliser for our plants and a perfect example of the circular economy in action.
Hygiene products
Conventional detergents often contain ingredients that are harmful to the environment. That is why we use eco-friendly cleaning and personal care products, allowing us to safely reuse wastewater to irrigate the fruit trees on the property.
Natural Pool
Enjoy our beautiful natural swimming pool, a refreshing and eco-friendly alternative to traditional pools. Purified without chlorine or chemicals, the water is filtered through plants and natural systems, creating a unique swimming experience.
